Kidney:

Centre for nephrology is dedicated to the understanding of kidney diseases, their development, progression, treatment and prevention. The faculty is at the forefront of research and patient care in the field of kidney diseases.
Pursuit of excellence in patient care through the improvement of the understanding of disease processes and development of new strategies in the treatment of individuals with kidney disease is our primary goal. We offer both inpatient and OPD care to all nephrology patients round the clock.
This includes counselling, management of all kidney disorders, procedures and the support of systems affected by kidney diseases. Services for kidney biopsies, dialysis and kidney transplantation are also available under one roof.
It is a close knit unit which includes highly specialised nephrologists, urologists and transplant surgeons. Kidney transplant operation involves taking out one kidney from the body of a person and transplanting it surgically in the body of another patient whose both kidneys have failed.
The transplanted kidney functions as the patient’s own kidney. Patient with end stage kidney failure has two choices, either lifelong dialysis or kidney transplantation. Transplantation offers better quality of life, better long term rehabilitation and is more cost effective than life long dialysis.
